The Pacific Highway, Highway No1, links Sydney and Brisbane. It's also the road I drive 15km along to get to work every day, although it's called Highway No1, most locals refer to it as 'the goat track.' In the last 12 months there have been at least three fatalities along the section I drive everyday, well they are the ones I can recall.
It has always been a bone of contention between state and federal government as to who is responsible for upkeep and upgrading on this road, and it is slowly happening, over my lifetime I can recall the old road down to Sydney and I know the journey is a lot quicker and safer these days. In the back of my mind I keep thinking one life lost is one too many, and as I was driving to work today thinking about what to post for MTM, the highway was on my mind.

Welcome to the MTM thing. It just seems to get bigger and bigger. I hosted for a bit when Travis was indisposed; I apparently took an expansive view.
It sounds like this is your town, or an aspect of it, not just this Monday, but every weekday.
Why is the upkeep of this road a bone of contention?
I would assume it is just this road, accountability for civil infrastructure is usually clearly spelled out constitutionally.
So, what makes this bit of road special?
I am curious.
Tschüss,
Chris

is probably a years worth of MTMs!
What is involved with restoring negatives like the one of the hotel? Do you physically restore the old negatives or do you digitally recreate the information that was on the original negative?
Love the green scenery along your highways. Quite a contrast from out snow/ice covered brown stuff.
Here on the east coast of the U.S., I also drive along a Highway 1 almost every day.
Everyone (plus local signage) calls our HWY 1 Boston Post Rd., because it was historically the coast-hugging route for mail delivery between Boston and New York City.
Thanks for joining in, and tell us more!
Welcome to the MTM gang. I hope you join us often. I believe you are the first to weigh in from Australia.
How beautiful and lush your greenery is, I'm jealous! I am also looking forward to more posts from Oz ;)
Hello New MTM poster!!!
What is it about the stretch of road that makes it so dangerous? We have a road near here that was causing problems and it was a while before we could convince the council that it was the design at fault, it was situated next to a motor way so people kept thinking it was a dual carriageway and kept driving onto the wrong side of the road and having serious accidents.
